Venkatesh Iyer Silences Critics with Blistering Fifty Against SRH

Heading into the match against SRH, Venkatesh Iyer was under considerable pressure. His IPL 2025 campaign had started poorly with single-digit scores, leading to criticism, notably from former KKR player Piyush Chawla, who questioned his shot selection and alluded to the pressure of his hefty Rs 23.75 crore auction price.

However, facing his favoured opponent, SRH, Iyer turned the tide dramatically. Coming in after early setbacks, he launched an assault on the SRH bowlers. His 60 off 29 balls was not just about quick scoring; it was a statement. He acknowledged the pitch wasn't typical Eden Gardens, holding up a bit, but adapted his game effectively.

This innings continued his remarkable run against SRH, following up on scores of 51* (28) in the 2024 Qualifier 1 and 52 (26) in the 2024 final against the same team. Iyer also credited the platform set by teammates Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi and highlighted the importance of mandatory domestic cricket participation enforced by the BCCI for player development.

While KKR lost early wickets, Iyer's onslaught, combined with Raghuvanshi's fifty and useful scores from Rahane and Rinku Singh (32), propelled them to a strong total of 200/6, showcasing the team's batting depth despite the initial criticism about their approach in swinging conditions earlier in the tournament.
