Michigan Man Arrested in Indiana After Multi-State Police Chase and Crash

The incident began Saturday afternoon when the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, acting on information from St. Joseph County about a potentially stolen camper, located the camper in Noble Township, Branch County. As deputies prepared a search warrant, 51-year-old James Edward Williams arrived in a truck, identified as the suspect vehicle.

Reports indicate Williams also crashed through road barricades and narrowly missed hitting two construction workers near the Indiana Toll Road overpass during the pursuit. Suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were reportedly found in his possession. Williams initially refused medical treatment at the scene but was later transported to a hospital for clearance before being booked into the Steuben County Jail. Authorities noted the collaboration between Michigan and Indiana agencies was crucial in apprehending the suspect and recovering stolen property. Further investigations are pending, and Williams may face additional charges in Branch and St. Joseph counties in Michigan, as well as LaGrange County in Indiana.
