Cybertruck’s High Mileage Consequences

A Nashville-based Cybertruck owner shared his experience of driving 100,000 miles in a year as a Lyft driver. While passengers loved the spacious cabin and smooth ride, the intensive use led to a $7,200 repair for the Power Conversion System (PCS) after the warranty expired.

Tesla’s Response to PCS Failures

Tesla is proactively addressing widespread reports of PCS failures in Cybertrucks. The company is rolling out an emergency OTA update that allows affected vehicles to utilize DC fast charging at Superchargers, even if the AC charging system is offline. Tesla is also covering Supercharging fees for affected owners until the hardware can be replaced. The company anticipates a large influx of replacement parts to resolve the backlog.

HW3 and the Future of FSD

Tesla has revised its stance on Hardware 3 (HW3), stating it will not be capable of unsupervised Full Self-Driving. Tesla plans to offer HW3 owners a hardware upgrade, including new cameras and a more powerful computer, at dedicated retrofit centers. Alternatively, owners can opt for a trade-in discount toward a new AI4-equipped vehicle.
