Harley-Davidson Recalls Nearly 17,000 Motorcycles Over Rear Brake Defect

The recall, announced by Harley-Davidson and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), addresses a design flaw where the rear brake line can come into contact with the Body Control Module (BCM). This contact can create a hole in the brake line, leading to a brake fluid leak and subsequent loss of rear braking ability.

Impacted owners should expect to receive a notification by mail around May 18, 2026. However, owners do not need to wait for the letter and can proactively check if their motorcycle is affected.

The recall affects 2025-2026 FLHC, FXBB, FXLRS, and FXLRST Softail models.

The rear brake line may contact the Body Control Module (BCM), leading to a brake fluid leak and loss of rear brakes.

Harley-Davidson dealerships will replace the BCM caddy and inspect/replace the rear brake line free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed around May 18, 2026.
