Braves Coaching Shakeup: Weiss Takes the Helm, Hefner & Richardson Join Staff

Jeremy Hefner, formerly the pitching coach for the New York Mets, will now oversee the Braves' pitching staff, replacing Rick Kranitz. Hefner's track record includes a decent performance with the Mets' pitching staff, and the Braves hope he can replicate that success.

Antoan Richardson, another addition from the Mets, will take on the role of first base coach, stepping in for Tom Goodwin. These changes reflect the Braves' commitment to revitalizing their coaching staff and improving team performance for the upcoming season.

Atlanta's core players, including Ronald Acuna Jr., Matt Olson, and Austin Riley, are expected to return, providing a strong foundation for the new coaching staff to build upon. The team's pitching options are plentiful, though the bullpen remains a work in progress.

The changes come after a disappointing 2025 season where the Braves missed the playoffs, signaling a need for a fresh approach.

Weiss has previous managerial experience with the Colorado Rockies and has served as the Braves' bench coach since 2018.

Hefner is expected to improve the Braves' pitching performance, drawing on his experience as the Mets' pitching coach.
