Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers Head to Arbitration

The Detroit Tigers and their star pitcher Tarik Skubal are at odds over his 2026 salary, leading to an arbitration hearing. Skubal, represented by agent Scott Boras, is seeking $32 million, while the Tigers have filed at $19 million. This $13 million difference is substantial and could lead to a record-setting outcome. The arbitration process involves a three-person panel that will choose either the player's or the team's figure, with no middle ground. Skubal is coming off two consecutive Cy Young Award-winning seasons, bolstering his case for a high salary. However, the Tigers' offer aligns with historical precedent for pitchers in arbitration. Other arbitration settlements this year include Randy Arozarena ($15.65 million) and Gunnar Henderson ($8.5 million). The Tigers did reach agreements with several other arbitration-eligible players, including Casey Mize ($6.15 million) and Riley Greene ($5 million).
