Univision Returns to YouTube TV After Two-Month Standoff

YouTube TV and TelevisaUnivision have reached a new agreement, ending a two-month blackout of Univision channels. The core issue revolved around YouTube TV’s proposal to shift Univision and its related channels to a more expensive add-on package, which would have raised costs for subscribers by 18%. This proposal drew criticism and sparked concerns from legislators about the affordability of Spanish-language programming.

The new agreement restores Univision, Unimas, TUDN, and Galavisión to YouTube TV’s base plan, ensuring they remain accessible to its 10 million subscribers. Additionally, Univision’s streaming service, Vix, will be integrated into YouTube Primetime Channels. This expanded partnership also extends to Mexico, where YouTube Primetime Channels will be available for the first time.

YouTube TV, launched as a budget-friendly alternative to traditional cable, has seen its monthly price more than double to $82.99 due to rising programming costs and carriage disputes. Similar conflicts have occurred with other major networks like Disney and NBCUniversal, highlighting the challenges of balancing affordability with content acquisition.
