Victoria Beckham and Eva Longoria Reflect on Their Time as WAGs

Victoria Beckham, 51, and Eva Longoria, 50, shared their memories of being WAGs in Victoria's new Netflix docuseries. Victoria has been married to soccer star David Beckham since 1999, while Eva was married to basketball player Tony Parker from 2007 to 2011.

Longoria recalled her initial confusion upon learning the term 'WAG' and expressed frustration with the stereotypes associated with it, including the perception that they are simply gold diggers without careers. She said, 'It’s hard when you’re married to an athlete because the world idolizes them. There’s an assumption that goes with being a wife or a girlfriend is that you’re a gold digger, you don’t have a job, you just want to look pretty and spend money.'

Beckham admitted that being a WAG provided her with a way to stay in the public eye during a period when she felt creatively unfulfilled. 'It was at a time when I didn’t feel creatively fulfilled so it’s how I stayed in the conversation,' she explained. 'I didn’t realize it at the time but I was trying to find myself.'

The friends remain close, with Longoria stating, 'We are peas in a pod. I wish people knew how funny and charming and smart Victoria is. She’s the funniest person. I think she’s an introvert, but she’s an extrovert with me. We are inseparable.'

WAG stands for 'wives and girlfriends' of professional athletes.

They met through their husbands, David Beckham and Tony Parker, who were friends. Their bond grew when the Beckhams moved to Los Angeles.

She faced stereotypes and assumptions that she was a gold digger without a career.
