Big 12 Commish Calls Out Notre Dame AD's 'Egregious' Behavior

The controversy stems from Notre Dame's exclusion from the 12-team College Football Playoff, leading AD Pete Bevacqua to voice strong disapproval of the ACC's perceived favoritism toward Miami, a full football member of the conference. Bevacqua argued that the ACC's public support for Miami, including social media posts and replays of Miami's win over Notre Dame on the ACC Network, damaged the relationship between the university and the conference.

Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark responded by calling Bevacqua's behavior 'egregious,' reminding that the ACC had provided Notre Dame a scheduling lifeline during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, allowing them to play a 10-game ACC schedule and compete for the conference title. Yormark emphasized that the CFP committee was transparent about the importance of head-to-head results in the selection process.

This situation underscores the unique position of Notre Dame as a football independent with strong ties to the ACC. The new rule guaranteeing a CFP spot to any top-12 ranked independent could further complicate or resolve these tensions.

Also, Penn State has named Matt Campbell as their new head coach, and Utah has entered into a private equity deal with Otro Capital, potentially opening new financial avenues for college programs.
