Donations Sought to Send Yorktown Service Members Home for the Holidays

The "Home for the Holidays" campaign, now in its fifth year, was established to address the financial challenges faced by military personnel stationed at the Coast Guard Training Center and the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown. Recognizing that many service members lack the funds to travel home during the holiday season, the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce initiated this fundraising effort to bridge the gap.\n\nSince its inception in 2022, the program has provided nearly 200 service members with \$300 stipends to help cover travel costs. However, the demand for assistance has steadily increased, with 90 service members receiving help last year and over 150 applications already submitted for this holiday season.\n\nDonations to the "Home for the Holidays" campaign can be made at various sponsorship levels, ranging from \$100 to fully funding one or more service members at \$300 per person. The Chamber also welcomes individual donations in increments of \$25. Online donations are accepted through the chamber\'s website until November 28, and checks can be mailed to the Chamber\'s address.\n\nThe impact of this program extends beyond financial assistance. Letters of appreciation from previous recipients highlight the profound emotional value of being able to spend the holidays with loved ones, reinforcing the importance of community support for military personnel.
