Ex-Miami and Maryland Safety Avantae Williams Arrested for Murder

The shooting occurred at McCabe's Bar in the early hours of May 3rd. According to police reports, a confrontation escalated into a physical fight, during which Williams allegedly drew a firearm and shot Keshod Harris multiple times. Harris was pronounced dead at AdventHealth DeLand. A bartender was also injured in the crossfire.

The investigation revealed that the dispute stemmed from jealousy and a prior conflict involving Harris's girlfriend. Surveillance footage and an iPhone belonging to Williams, which was found at the scene, played crucial roles in identifying him as the suspect.

Williams has a troubled past, including a prior arrest for aggravated battery of a pregnant person, which led to his dismissal from the Miami Hurricanes before being reinstated. He transferred to Maryland for the 2023 season, playing in four games before entering the transfer portal.

The DeLand Police Department's swift investigation and the evidence gathered led to Williams turning himself in to authorities. He now faces a second-degree murder charge and is being held without bond.
