The Killeen ISD Board of Trustees is scheduled to review and potentially approve a contract with Huckabee Architects for the Palo Alto Middle School Renovation Project. The project, budgeted at $2,029,500, includes various costs such as construction, design, permitting fees, furniture, equipment, and a contingency allowance. This renovation will repurpose the Palo Alto Middle School, located at 2301 W. Elms Road, into the new site for Gateway Middle School and Gateway High School DAEP. The existing Gateway facility, currently housed at 4100 Zephyr Road, is 64 years old and relies on 18 portable classrooms.

The renovation project is expected to take approximately one year, with construction starting in October and a targeted completion date of May 28, 2027. According to Huckabee’s proposal, construction will be carefully managed to minimize disruption to students, focusing on areas not in use during normal school days. Once completed, the Palo Alto facility will offer additional classroom and office spaces, enhancing the learning environment for students.
