Queen Elizabeth and Ted Sarandos Shared a Similar Harry and Meghan Problem

A new biography of Queen Elizabeth II and a recent report on Netflix's breakup with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, reveal a similar issue in famous people’s interactions with the Montecito-based couple.

According to Hugo Vickers' biography, "Queen Elizabeth II: A Personal History," the Queen began requesting another person be present during phone calls with Harry after the Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021. Vickers wrote that the distress the Sussexes caused the queen in the last years of her life cannot be overestimated.

Similarly, Variety reported that Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos became wary of taking business calls from Meghan without a witness present – in his case, a lawyer. This followed Netflix's investment of millions of dollars into projects with the couple, which reportedly led to frustration due to business missteps and lackluster ratings.

Reports indicate that Netflix grew tired of what they perceived as the couple's pattern of selling repackaged versions of the same story about their exit from royal life.

While representatives for Netflix and the Sussexes have disputed these reports, the anecdotes contribute to a narrative of caution and strained relationships surrounding Harry and Meghan's post-royal endeavors.
