Cobie Smulders' 'Inappropriate' Whispers to Josh Radnor on HIMYM

During a recent episode of the 'How We Made Your Mother' podcast, Cobie Smulders and Josh Radnor reminisced about their time on 'How I Met Your Mother.' Smulders revealed her unconventional method for preparing for intimate scenes with Radnor. She would whisper incredibly inappropriate things in his ear right before filming.

Smulders explained that this technique helped create 'the moment before,' a common acting exercise used to visualize the immediate past of a scene. Since many of their scenes were 'post-coital,' she would whisper details of what their characters, Robin and Ted, had just done.

Radnor confirmed that Smulders' whispers often left him speechless and with a bright red face. He joked that if acting doesn't work out, Smulders could have a career writing 'the filthiest romance novels.' Their co-star, Neil Patrick Harris, was also known for whispering things, but Radnor insisted that Smulders' 'depravity' was unmatched.

More recently, Jason Segel explained how working with Cobie Smulders for so many years on HIMYM, even though they didn't share many storylines, helped to build a chemistry between them that translated to their roles on Shrinking.

Smulders and Radnor have both declined to reveal the specific content of the whispers, suggesting they were extremely inappropriate.

Co-creator Craig Thomas admitted he never knew this was happening on set.

Radnor said he was often left speechless and red-faced, sometimes breaking into laughter during scenes.
