Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin: Today Show Status Updates

Rumors surrounding potential changes at NBC's Today Show surfaced following brief periods where main anchors Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin were off-air.

Savannah Guthrie addressed speculation directly after her March 2025 absence. She posted an "Out of office" message on social media, confirming she was simply on vacation. She returned to her co-anchor duties shortly after.

Similarly, Craig Melvin took an extended break in April 2025. Co-anchor Savannah Guthrie announced on-air that Melvin was taking time off for spring/Easter break to spend with his wife, Lindsay Czarniak, and their children. This followed a previous short absence in March 2025 when Melvin traveled for an assignment related to the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.

During Melvin's April break, veteran NBC Sports presenter Mike Tirico stepped in as a temporary co-host alongside Guthrie. Guthrie noted Tirico would join them in Studio 1A while Melvin was away.

Guthrie had previously discussed her future with the show in February 2025, telling Us Weekly she has "the best job with the best people" and is "pretty darn happy," reinforcing her commitment amidst the changing landscape after Hoda Kotb's departure earlier in the year. Melvin also expressed his appreciation for his role, calling it the "professional honor of a lifetime" after stepping into Kotb's former slot.
