Savannah Celebrates St. Patrick's Day 2026: Parade, Traditions, and Preparations

Parade Route:: The parade starts at 10:15 a.m. at the intersection of Abercorn and Gwinnett streets. A map of the full route is available from the City of Savannah.

Running of the Squares:: Since several years ago, the City of Savannah has instituted the “Land Rush” for square set-up along the parade route. Calhoun, Oglethorpe, LaFayette, Johnson, Wright, Madison, and Chippewa Squares are along the parade route. At 6 a.m. on the morning of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, City and Security staff will “officially” open the squares to parade-goers.

Tradition:: For decades, some Savannah families have camped at Lafayette Square days before St. Patrick's Day, guarding parade viewing spots and keeping family traditions alive

Early Setup:: Parade-goers can set up folding chairs to reserve viewing locations starting Monday night at 5 p.m. on streets like Abercorn, Broughton, Bay, and Bull streets.

Parking:: The city offers six parking garages: Bryan Street, Eastern Wharf, Liberty Street, Robison, State Street, and Whitaker Street. Towing begins after midnight Monday; released vehicles can be retrieved at Savannah Police Department headquarters.

Other Celebrations:: The Sgt. Jasper Green Ceremony will be at 4:40 p.m. on March 16, and a St. Patrick’s Day Mass will be held at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist at 8 a.m. on March 17.
