Brewer Hicklen Recalled by Tigers Amid Roster Shuffling

The Detroit Tigers made several roster moves on Thursday, recalling Brewer Hicklen from Triple-A Toledo and optioning Chase Lee. Hicklen, who was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in late March, has a .242 batting average and a .674 OPS in 25 Triple-A games. He previously had brief appearances in the big leagues with the Royals and Brewers, seeking his first MLB hit.

Chase Lee, in contrast, had a promising start, not surrendering a run in his first five MLB games, with 4 1/3 scoreless innings. However, to make room for Hicklen, Lee was sent back to Triple-A. The expected return of John Brebbia from the injured list further complicates Hicklen’s potential stay with the team.

John Brebbia, who has been sidelined with a triceps strain since April 19, is anticipated to rejoin the team soon. Before his injury, Brebbia had a strong performance, with a 1.00 ERA and 0.89 WHIP over nine innings. The Tigers hope Brebbia can perform well enough to justify exercising his $4 million option for 2026.
