Elden Ring Nightreign launches on May 30, 2025, for multiple platforms, offering fresh content after the success of Elden Ring, which sold 30 million units.
The game features a new Executor character with unique gameplay mechanics.
A three-player co-op mode is the core focus, but a two-player option was 'overlooked' during development.
Why this matters: The absence of a two-player mode may disappoint players who prefer gaming with a single friend. FromSoftware is considering post-launch support to address this.
Elden Ring Nightreign is designed around a three-player co-op experience where teams use various classes to farm maps, defeat bosses, and ultimately face a super-boss, the Nightlord. The game is also playable solo, with adjustments to enemy aggression and a self-revive feature to balance the difficulty.
The lack of a two-player mode was admitted by Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki in an interview with IGN&ref=yanuki.com. Ishizaki explained that the focus was primarily on balancing the game for three players and solo players, leading to the oversight. This omission is peculiar, as many similar games allow players to opt-out of matchmaking to play with a friend.
While Nightreign isn't planned as a traditional live service game, the developers are considering adding features post-launch, including the much-requested two-player mode.
Q: What platforms will Elden Ring Nightreign be available on?
PlayStation 4 (PS4), PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Q: What is the main gameplay focus of Nightreign?
The game is built around teams of three using various classes to farm maps and defeat bosses, but it is also playable solo.

FromSoftware stated that the two-player option was overlooked during development but is being considered for post-launch support.
Elden Ring Nightreign offers a new standalone roguelike experience within the Elden Ring universe.

The absence of a two-player mode is a notable drawback for players who prefer playing with a friend, but the developers are aware and considering adding it in the future.
