Overwatch 2: Vendetta, the New Melee-Focused Hero

Vendetta's introduction marks a shift towards more melee-centric combat within Overwatch 2. Her abilities, as showcased in the trailer, suggest a highly mobile and aggressive playstyle, setting her apart from traditional ranged damage dealers.

The hero's backstory, intertwined with Blackwatch and Talon, provides a narrative link to existing characters like Reaper, Cassidy, Moira and Genji, enriching the game's lore. The trailer depicts Vendetta's origins, revealing her father's assassination by Gabriel Reyes during the Retribution mission, fueling her desire for revenge and her adoption of the moniker 'La Lupa' (The Wolf).

Her hard-light sword connects her to Vishkar corporation lore alongside Lifeweaver's biolight tech. It's what Symmetra uses to create constructs in battle, and hard-light is tied to the Vishkar corporation in Overwatch lore.

Vendetta's release breaks the established pattern of hero releases (Tank, Support, Damage), indicating a possible shift in Blizzard's hero design strategy.

Vendetta will be available for a hero trial from November 26 to December 1, and officially launches in Season 20.
