Iran Postpones Khamenei Funeral Amid US, Israeli Strikes

Following the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a US and Israeli strike, Iran has postponed his funeral amidst ongoing military actions. The Assembly of Experts, an 88-member clerical body, is reportedly nearing a decision on Khamenei's successor. Possible candidates include one of Khamenei's sons, Mojtaba, who is said to have strong ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

In response to the initial strikes, Iran has launched missiles and drones at Israel and Gulf states hosting US military installations. Kuwait reported a civilian death due to falling shrapnel from an Iranian attack. Meanwhile, the US Secretary of Defence claimed a US submarine sank an Iranian navy frigate off the coast of Sri Lanka.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported conducting multiple waves of strikes across Iran, targeting missile arrays, air defense systems, and command centers. They also claimed an Israeli F-35 fighter jet shot down an Iranian Yak-130 over Tehran. The US military has stated that the US-Israeli campaign is ahead of schedule.

The funeral was postponed due to a high volume of requests to attend and the need to provide appropriate facilities.

The Assembly of Experts is considering candidates, with one of Khamenei's sons, Mojtaba, being a potential front-runner.
