TPC Sawgrass’ 12th Hole: Changes and Agronomy Support at THE PLAYERS Championship

TPC Sawgrass’ Stadium Course, renowned for its perplexing design, presents a unique challenge to golfers at The Players Championship. This year, the focus is on the par-4 12th hole, which has undergone modifications to enhance its risk-reward dynamic. Director of Agronomy Lucas Andrews and his team have prepared the course with firmer greens and thicker rough, emphasizing the importance of hitting the fairway.

The changes to the 12th hole include a lengthened bunker on the left side of the fairway and a newly added bunker on the right. These adjustments aim to discourage players from simply overpowering the hole and encourage more strategic play. The firmer greens further amplify the risk, as errant shots can easily find the water on the left side of the putting surface.

Beyond the course modifications, the agronomy team receives substantial support from industry partners. Companies like Quali-Pro, John Deere, and XTRAtuf provide resources and assistance to ensure the course remains in top condition throughout the tournament. This support includes everything from equipment and supplies to meals and morale-boosting amenities for the crew.
