Adley Rutschman Returns to IL with Oblique Strain

Adley Rutschman's return to the IL is a significant setback for the Baltimore Orioles. After struggling to produce at the plate this season, Rutschman's absence further weakens the team's lineup. The injury occurred when Rutschman felt soreness in his right abdomen during warmups before a game against the Boston Red Sox. While the team initially hoped the injury was minor, further evaluation revealed a low-grade oblique strain. Mansolino expressed hope that Rutschman would return this season but acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the injury.

Basallo, who made his MLB debut on Sunday, has impressed early, driving in at least one run in each of his first three games. The 21-year-old will now be tasked with handling the primary catching duties, a role that will test his defensive abilities and game-calling skills.

There is no definitive timeline for his return, but manager Tony Mansolino indicated it's a mild strain and they are optimistic he will return this season.

Rookie Samuel Basallo will take over as the primary catcher, with Alex Jackson as the backup.
