Mortal Kombat 2: Trailer Release Imminent, Poster Pokes Fun at Mission Impossible

Mortal Kombat 2 is shaping up to be a significant release for Warner Bros., following the success of the first film in 2021. The original Mortal Kombat earned over $84 million at the box office and became a streaming hit. The sequel reunites much of the original cast, adding Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. Urban's casting has sparked some debate, but returning star Lewis Tan has teased a unique and compelling portrayal of the character.

The film's plot centers on Earthrealm's last chance to avoid merging with Outworld after nine consecutive defeats in the Mortal Kombat tournament. The stakes are high as the heroes face Shao Kahn and his forces.

Digital Eclipse and NetherRealm are also releasing the Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection, a compilation of classic Mortal Kombat games, featuring modern enhancements and behind-the-scenes content. This collection will include 10 games from the early years of the series, enhanced with rollback netcode and archival footage.

Mortal Kombat 2 is scheduled for theatrical release on October 24, 2025.

Karl Urban, known for his role in The Boys, will play Johnny Cage.

Producer Todd Garner has stated that if Mortal Kombat 2 is successful, he will return to produce a third movie.
