Chris Gabehart, formerly a competition director at Joe Gibbs Racing, is embroiled in a legal battle with his former employer. JGR alleges that Gabehart stole sensitive data when he left to join Spire Motorsports as Chief Motorsports Officer. The lawsuit seeks over $8 million in damages and includes Spire Motorsports as a defendant.

Gabehart's defense claims the lawsuit is retaliatory and points to a dysfunctional environment within JGR as the reason for his departure. He stated that he was promised autonomy in his role but instead found himself constantly dealing with interference from Joe Gibbs and other executives, particularly regarding decisions related to Ty Gibbs.

Gabehart also alleges that he was pressured to become Ty Gibbs' crew chief, a position he didn't want. He claims decisions regarding the No. 54 car were made without his input and that Ty Gibbs was not held to the same standards as other drivers.

JGR's lawsuit claims Gabehart created a folder titled 'Spire' on his JGR account and synced it with his personal accounts. Gabehart admits to this but claims it was solely to evaluate his decision to leave and that he deleted all proprietary information without sharing it with Spire.
