Bald Eagle Drops Cat Through Car Windshield: A Shocking Incident

On Wednesday morning, a driver in Swain County, North Carolina, experienced a truly startling event. While driving on U.S. Route 74, a bald eagle dropped a cat, which crashed through her windshield, leaving a massive hole. The driver immediately called 911 to report the incident.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver was not injured. In the 911 call, the driver expressed her disbelief, stating, "You may not believe me, but I just had a bald eagle drop a cat through my windshield. It absolutely shattered my windshield." The dispatcher, surprisingly, responded with understanding, saying, "I do believe you, honestly."

Another witness confirmed the bizarre event, exclaiming, "That is the craziest thing I’ve ever seen." While the cat unfortunately did not survive, this incident raises questions about why the eagle dropped the cat and what it was doing with it in the first place.

Kendrick Weeks, a wildlife expert, suggested the eagle might have been scavenging roadkill or attempting to carry a cat that was too heavy. Bald eagles typically scavenge and can carry animals the size of a cat, but a live cat would be harder to carry than a dead one. This event is not entirely unique, as a similar incident occurred in 2019 when a catfish crashed through a woman's windshield in North Carolina after being dropped by a bird.

While bald eagles can carry smaller cats, they are not a common prey. They typically prefer fish and other small animals.
