Big Bear Eagles Jackie and Shadow Welcome New Eaglets

The eagles' nest, located in the San Bernardino National Forest, is monitored 24/7 by Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV), a nonprofit organization that provides live streams of the nest. This allows viewers worldwide to witness the eagles' daily lives and the development of the eaglets. Jackie laid the eggs in January, and despite losing two eggs earlier in the season due to a raven attack, the couple successfully hatched two eaglets from their second clutch.

The event marks another milestone in the lives of Jackie and Shadow, who have previously parented eaglets in 2019, 2022, and 2025. The survival of these eaglets is crucial for the local bald eagle population. The live streams also offer valuable insights into the behavior and parenting habits of bald eagles, contributing to broader wildlife research and conservation efforts.

It can take between 24 to 48 hours for an eaglet to fully hatch after the initial pip.

At this stage, the chicks are fed small bites of fish or other prey, and they also receive essential nutrients from their parents’ saliva.
