Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), located in Dubai South, is undergoing a massive $35 billion expansion. Upon completion, DWC will be the world's largest airport, capable of handling up to 260 million passengers each year. The facility will feature five runways and 400 aircraft gates, ensuring Dubai remains at the forefront of global aviation.

Griffiths likened the transition to the closure of Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport, which was transformed into residential and commercial space. The land occupied by DXB will be repurposed as part of a new real estate masterplan, helping to expand the city. This strategic move is part of Dubai's long-term urban development strategy.
