UCLA Protestors' Phones Returned, Kechaun Bennett Transfers to UCLA

In May 2024, over 40 students were arrested during protests at UCLA, resulting in the confiscation of their cellphones. Attorneys affiliated with the National Lawyers Guild highlighted the hardships faced by students without their phones, including job loss and difficulty in studies and family communication. After nearly a year, the UCLA Police Department announced the return of the phones, although students have a limited two-week window to retrieve them. 

Meanwhile, Kechaun Bennett, a defensive lineman from the University of Michigan, has transferred to UCLA. Bennett, a former four-star recruit, brings experience from Michigan's national championship-winning team. He recorded four tackles in 13 games last season. UCLA has been active in the transfer portal, particularly focusing on defensive additions.

The Los Angeles city attorney’s office will not file criminal charges against the vast majority of protesters arrested at UCLA and USC during last year’s mass demonstrations over the war in Gaza.

Students have two weeks from the date of written notification to retrieve their phones.

The phones will be destroyed.

Kechaun Bennett is a defensive lineman transferring to UCLA from the University of Michigan.

He recorded 7 total tackles over 28 games.
