Calvin Crew Sentenced to Life for Brutal Murder of Uber Driver Christina Spicuzza

On February 10, 2022, Christina Spicuzza picked up Calvin Crew as an Uber passenger. Within minutes, Crew pulled a gun on Spicuzza, demanding she continue driving. The dashcam footage captured Spicuzza pleading for her life, telling Crew she had four children. Two days later, Spicuzza's body was found in a wooded area in Monroeville with a gunshot wound to the head.

The evidence presented at trial included the dashcam footage, cell tower pings, and surveillance footage. Crew claimed he took a bus home after the Uber ride, but surveillance footage contradicted his statement. During the sentencing, Crew's defense attorney cited a difficult childhood marked by violence and neglect. However, District Attorney Stephen Zappala condemned the defense's attempt to characterize the case as racially or politically motivated, emphasizing the overwhelming evidence against Crew.

Despite not attending his sentencing, victim impact statements were read by Spicuzza's family. Her mother, Cindy Spicuzza, stated they showed mercy by not seeking the death penalty. Spicuzza’s life partner, Brandon Marto, called Crew a coward for not facing the court. Crew plans to appeal his conviction.

Calvin Crew was sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus an additional 13 to 26 years.

Evidence included dashcam footage from Spicuzza's car, cell tower pings, and surveillance footage.

Spicuzza's family requested he not receive the death penalty due to their religious beliefs.
