David Ruiz Arrested in Murder of Las Palapas Founder Edward Acosta

On Tuesday, police responded to a call from a housekeeper who reported “blood all around” at Acosta’s residence. SAPD Chief William McManus identified the incident as a “high-profile” murder, noting that the victim and a family member were involved in an altercation that led to the stabbing. The suspect, David Ruiz, fled the scene but was later apprehended in Kimble County.

According to an affidavit, Ruiz contacted Acosta’s son prior to the incident, and arrangements were made for him to stay at Acosta’s home. The affidavit also mentions a family group chat where Acosta indicated Ruiz had arrived at his home and plans were made to meet up with other relatives.

KSAT Investigates reached out to Ruiz’s father, who confirmed that he is Ron Acosta’s brother-in-law, making David Ruiz Ron Acosta’s nephew. Ruiz is expected to be extradited to Bexar County to face a murder charge.
