Florida Deputy Killed, Others Injured in Shooting During Eviction

On November 21, 2025, deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office were serving an eviction notice at a residence in the Bermuda Club when they were met with gunfire. Michael Halberstam, the son of the homeowner who was being evicted, allegedly opened fire on the deputies.

Deputy Terri Mashkoor, a 47-year-old with 25 years of service, was killed. Deputy Tino Rigsby was shot in the shoulder and is recovering. A locksmith who was assisting with the eviction was also critically wounded. The sergeant on scene, Carlos was not injured and returned fire.

Halberstam had a history of narcotics charges and misdemeanor assault in Virginia. Recent social media posts and his termination from UPS indicated a troubled state of mind. Seven calls were made to the residence this month prior to the shooting.

The community and law enforcement agencies are mourning the loss of Deputy Mashkoor. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to be released following the investigation.
