Former CHP Officer and DUI Suspect Charged with Murder in Fiery Norwalk Crash

Instead of providing immediate assistance or alerting other drivers, Rodriguez allegedly waited in his vehicle for three minutes before exiting the freeway and reporting the crash, failing to mention his involvement. Subsequently, Iris Salmeron, purportedly under the influence of alcohol, crashed into the stranded Nissan, resulting in a fiery explosion that claimed the lives of all four occupants.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has brought murder charges against both Rodriguez and Salmeron, underscoring the gravity of their alleged actions. Rodriguez's prior on-duty crashes and failure to report the incident promptly have further fueled public outrage and scrutiny.

The victims' families have filed a civil lawsuit against the CHP, alleging negligence and seeking accountability for the preventable tragedy. The investigation into the crash has raised questions about Rodriguez's conduct and CHP's protocols for accident response and officer accountability.

Both are charged with four counts of murder.

Rodriguez allegedly caused the initial crash by rear-ending the victims' vehicle at high speed. Salmeron then crashed into the disabled vehicle while allegedly driving under the influence.

He allegedly did not provide immediate assistance, secure the scene, or warn other motorists.
