Prosecutors Seek to Revoke Bail for Kapahulu Barricade Suspect

Robert Melvin Morris's case has drawn significant attention due to the violent nature of the standoff and the potential federal penalties he faces. The incident began on October 21 when DEA agents, supported by Honolulu Police Department officers, attempted to execute a search warrant at Morris’s residence on Herbert Street in Kapahulu. During the attempt, Morris allegedly fired shots at law enforcement, injuring a state Sheriff’s deputy working as part of the DEA task force. The 16-hour standoff that ensued displaced residents and closed streets in the area. Morris, who has prior felony convictions, faces a mandatory minimum of 25 years and a maximum of life in prison if convicted on all charges. His criminal history includes convictions for possession of a firearm, possession of an unregistered silencer, and intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Morris is charged with assaulting a federal officer, using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.

Prosecutors argue that Morris is a flight risk and poses a danger to the community if released before trial.

Morris has prior felony convictions, including possession of a firearm and intent to distribute methamphetamine.
