Miles Pfeffer Found Guilty of Murdering Temple Police Officer

The trial of Miles Pfeffer revisited the events of February 18, 2023, when Sergeant Christopher Fitzgerald was fatally shot near Temple University's campus. Fitzgerald, 31, was patrolling an area known for recent carjackings when he encountered three individuals dressed in black. After two of them fled, Fitzgerald pursued Pfeffer, leading to a confrontation. Prosecutors argued that Pfeffer intentionally shot Fitzgerald six times, including three times in the head, after a brief struggle. Evidence presented included video footage of the shooting, which the prosecution claimed clearly demonstrated Pfeffer's intent to kill. Pfeffer's defense argued that he acted impulsively out of fear. The jury ultimately sided with the prosecution, finding Pfeffer guilty on all charges. Miles Pfeffer was charged with and found guilty of first-degree murder, criminal homicide of a law enforcement officer, disarming an officer, robbery, theft, evading arrest, and weapons crimes.

Pfeffer was sentenced to life in prison plus 22-45 years.
