Prisoner Escapes and is Recaptured Near Delaware County Courthouse

On May 29, 2025, Taqwa Wilson escaped while being transported from George W. Hill Correctional Facility to the Delaware County Courthouse for a court hearing regarding previous charges, including receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, criminal mischief, and driving without a license. Wilson fled from the transport vehicle, leading to a two-hour search involving the FBI, U.S. Marshals, and local law enforcement. He was eventually apprehended on Broomall Street, about a block from the courthouse. The Delaware County Courthouse remained open during the search. Officials are investigating how Wilson managed to escape, focusing on potential security lapses during the transport. Residents were asked to shelter-in-place during the search. Witnesses reported seeing a large police presence in the area during the capture.

Taqwa Wilson was on the loose for approximately two hours before being recaptured.

He was captured on Broomall Street, about a block away from the Delaware County Courthouse.

Wilson was facing charges including receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, criminal mischief, and driving without a license.

Officials are conducting an internal investigation to determine how the escape occurred and to identify any security measures that were overlooked.
