Ryan Routh: Trump Assassination Attempt Trial Prepares to Commence

Ryan Routh, 59, is accused of plotting to kill Trump near his West Palm Beach golf course in September 2024. According to prosecutors, Routh spent weeks planning the assassination attempt. He positioned himself in shrubbery near the golf course with a rifle. A Secret Service agent spotted Routh before Trump came into view, and officials say Routh aimed his weapon at the agent, who opened fire. Routh reportedly dropped his rifle and fled without firing a shot.

Routh has a history of legal issues, including a 2002 arrest for eluding a traffic stop and barricading himself from officers with a fully automatic machine gun. In 2010, police searched a warehouse Routh owned and found more than 100 stolen items.

The trial is set to begin nearly a year after the alleged assassination attempt. Jury selection is scheduled to begin on Sept. 8.

Routh faces federal charges including attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and multiple firearm violations.

Routh has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Routh has requested a round of golf with Trump, access to female strippers, and a putting green.
