Teenager Dies After Police Chase in Tottenham

On Friday, October 3rd, at approximately 00:52hrs, police attempted to stop a vehicle of interest on Pretoria Road in Tottenham. A short pursuit ensued, lasting about 60 seconds, before police temporarily lost sight of the vehicle. Shortly after, the car was found to have crashed on The Roundway. Marcus Fakana, the passenger, sustained critical injuries and died shortly after being taken to the hospital.

Fakana's death is especially poignant given his recent release from a Dubai prison. He had been sentenced to a year in prison for engaging in a consensual relationship with a 17-year-old British tourist. Despite being only a month away from her 18th birthday, the relationship was illegal under Dubai law. Radha Stirling, founder of Detained in Dubai, supported Fakana and his family during his imprisonment and expressed her heartbreak at his untimely death.

The incident is under investigation, and the Met's Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) have been informed. Police are appealing for any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage to come forward.
