On February 23, 2026, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Alaska. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the tremor occurred at a shallow depth of just 1 kilometer (0.62 mile). The US Tsunami Warning System confirmed that no tsunami warning was issued. This event follows a 6.0-magnitude earthquake that shook the Anchorage metropolitan area on November 27 last year, highlighting the region's seismic activity. Alaska is known for its frequent earthquakes, experiencing a magnitude 7 earthquake nearly every year, according to the USGS.

RBI's High-Security Data Center

To bolster its infrastructure resilience, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has established a high-security data center in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This greenfield facility will host core computing systems that support the central bank’s currency management, payment and settlement operations, and regulatory data functions, reported PTI. The location was chosen strategically to minimize exposure to cross-border threats and seismic risks. Unlike Mumbai and Chennai, Odisha is not a landing site for major subsea communication cables, further insulating the facility from cyber risks and network vulnerabilities. This marks the RBI’s second data centre, with the Primary Data Centre located in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. Analyst note that globally, central banks and major financial institutions are increasingly establishing and managing their own secure data centres, prioritising data security, operational control, and systemic resilience over reliance on public infrastructure.
