Multiple Earthquakes Rattle South Carolina Upstate

The recent series of earthquakes in the Upstate of South Carolina has been centered around the Coronaca community in Greenwood County. The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 2.2, occurred around 11:30 p.m. on August 18. Following this, a 1.7 magnitude quake was reported at approximately 3:08 a.m. on August 19. A third earthquake with a magnitude of 1.6 was detected on August 19. These events are considered minor and have not resulted in any reported damage or injuries. However, the increased frequency of earthquakes in a region not typically known for seismic activity has prompted the USGS to monitor the situation closely.
