Killeen ISD Board Approves Sale of Former Bellaire Elementary School

The KISD Board's decision to sell the Bellaire Elementary property marks the end of an era for the former school, which was decommissioned in 2021. Assistant Superintendent Adam Rich presented the proposal, highlighting the city's interest in the property for a new fire station.

The Bellaire property, encompassing 6 acres, features a main school building of 54,700 square feet and a separate 4,000-square-foot activity building. The location is strategically important, as it will replace Fire Station 5, situated just a quarter mile away.

The sale, approved in a 7-0 vote, includes a 60-day inspection period for the city, followed by a 30-day closing period. The $803,000 sale price aligns with the appraised value of the property.

In addition to the property sale, the board also decided to postpone a vote on a three-year contract with Third Future Schools to operate Manor Middle School, citing the need for further refinement of contract details.

The school was decommissioned in 2021 and is no longer in use. Selling the property allows KISD to generate revenue from an underutilized asset.

The city plans to build a new fire station on the site, replacing the existing Fire Station 5.

The City of Killeen has agreed to pay the appraised value of $803,000 in cash.
