LSU Names Wade Rousse as New President

The LSU Board of Supervisors concluded their search for a new president by appointing Wade Rousse, formerly the president of McNeese State University. The decision, made on November 4, 2025, marks a significant transition for Louisiana State University, which has been under interim leadership since William Tate’s departure. Rousse’s background in business is expected to influence his approach to leading the university, with a focus on securing additional research funding.

James Dalton, previously the provost at the University of Alabama, was named Executive Vice President and Provost, taking on responsibilities similar to a chancellor. The selection process involved interviews with students, faculty, and community leaders. While Rousse garnered support from the board, student opposition highlighted concerns regarding his qualifications and campus safety, reflecting broader issues within the university community.

The appointment of Rousse also means LSU Athletics will report directly to the president, giving him a substantial role in selecting a new football coach and athletic director.

William Tate left LSU to become the president of Rutgers University in New Jersey.

James Dalton was a finalist for the LSU presidency and has been named the Executive Vice President and Provost of LSU.
