Minnesota Wildfires Prompt Evacuations and National Guard Assistance

The Camp House Fire, which started on Sunday afternoon near Brimson, Minnesota, rapidly expanded due to dry conditions and strong winds. By Monday morning, it had grown to 1,250 acres, destroying multiple cabins and forcing residents to evacuate. The fire jumped County Highway 44, leaving some families uncertain about the fate of their homes.

Simultaneously, the Jenkins Creek Fire ignited on Monday morning near Fairbanks, approximately 9 miles northeast of the Camp House Fire. This fire quickly spread to 1,500 acres, leading to further evacuations and the closure of recreational areas. The causes of both fires are currently under investigation.

The Minnesota National Guard's involvement aims to bolster firefighting efforts and provide much-needed resources to the affected areas. Aircraft, personnel from various agencies, and mutual aid from local fire departments are all engaged in combating the wildfires.

Local residents have described the Camp House Fire as the largest they've seen in the Brimson area in many years, highlighting the severity of the situation. The public is urged to avoid the area to ensure the safety of firefighting operations. Drones are strictly prohibited, as their presence can halt air operations.

The northern evacuation line is Little Creek Road, the eastern line is County Road 151, the southern line is Camp House Road, and the western line is County Highway 44.

Low humidity and high winds are contributing to the rapid spread of the fires.

Firefighting aircraft, personnel from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Superior National Forest, and mutual aid from St. Louis County and Lake County fire departments are responding. The National Guard is also providing assistance.
