The purchase, finalized last week according to Maricopa County Recorder documents, has stirred strong reactions. The warehouse, located north of Dysart Road and Cactus Road, is the size of over seven football fields. While ICE has not officially commented on the facility's intended use, concerns are mounting, especially given reports of inadequate healthcare for detainees in ICE custody.

Democratic State Senator Analise Ortiz voiced serious concerns, stating that if the facility is used to house people, it could become a 'death camp' due to the alleged lack of proper medical care. Federal data indicates a significant increase in deaths in ICE custody, rising from 11 to 31 last year.

Surprise Police Department clarifies that while they enforce local and state laws, they do not enforce federal immigration laws and cannot interfere with ICE operations. The city of Surprise issued a statement indicating they were not aware of the purchase beforehand.

The warehouse is 418,000 square feet, equivalent to more than seven football fields.
