Moran was driving eastbound when she failed to maintain assured clear distance and struck the rear of Nathaniel R. Blankenship's vehicle, which was stopped and waiting to turn. This caused Moran's vehicle to cross the centerline and collide with Dalila Zamudio's vehicle. Moran was ejected from her vehicle and pronounced dead at Marion General Hospital.
