DC Enacts Youth Curfew After Navy Yard Halloween Incident

Following weeks of increasing disorderly conduct, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has ordered an emergency juvenile curfew. The order enables the Metropolitan Police Chief to designate areas as "high risk" and implement curfews as early as 6 p.m. Specific zones include Navy Yard (between Interstate 695/Anacostia River and 8th Street SE/South Capitol Street SE), the U Street Corridor (between V Street/Vermont Avenue NW and T Street NW, and Florida Avenue/9th Street NW and 15th Street), Banneker Recreation Center (between Euclid Street/W Street NW and Georgia Avenue/9th Street NW), and Union Station (between H Street NE/D Street NE and 3rd Street NE/North Capitol Street NE).

This action follows a prior emergency amendment over the summer that temporarily reduced juvenile violence. Officials point to an increase in disorderly conduct after the expiration of that amendment as justification for the new curfew.

11 p.m. to 6 a.m. citywide, with special zones enforcing curfew as early as 6 p.m.
