Wave Children's Learning Center Closure in Virginia Beach: A History of Violations and Insurance Issues

Wave Children’s Learning Center, part of Wave Church, offered care for children aged 8 weeks to 11 years. The center stated that the insurance company's decision to drop coverage was based on a recent claim. However, the timing coincides with the surfacing of serious allegations and a history of violations.

In 2024, an employee, Jhamica Jackson, was charged with felony child abuse after a child sustained a broken clavicle while in her care. Camera footage reportedly showed Jackson mishandling the child. Separately, an incident occurred where staff members took inappropriate actions to relieve a 15-month-old infant's constipation, leading to terminations and additional training.

Inspection reports from the Virginia Department of Social Services detail multiple instances of rough handling of children. These incidents included employees lifting children by their arms and swinging them around. The center responded by retraining staff on proper child handling techniques.

The sudden closure has left parents searching for new daycare options with limited availability. Some parents have managed to enroll their children in other centers, such as the Goddard School, but many are facing difficulties in finding suitable care for all their children.

The center closed because its insurer dropped coverage following a claim. Additionally, a history of violations and allegations of child abuse may have been factors.

Violations included "rough handling of children," inappropriate actions to relieve a child's constipation, and failure to report incidents promptly.

Parents received only 48 hours' notice, leading to significant difficulties in finding alternative childcare.
