University of Arizona Launches AETOS Program to Combat Drone and Near-Space Threats

The Arizona AETOS Program addresses the critical need for enhanced defense against modern technological threats. The program, a collaboration between the University of Arizona's College of Engineering and the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance, will bring together military and civilian leaders to develop solutions for national security challenges. With a focus on near-space and terrestrial operations, the program aims to counter threats such as low-cost drones and high-speed missiles.

The program's curriculum includes formal classroom learning and working groups, where participants will develop capstone projects. These projects will focus on improving data and analytic models to understand threats and new technologies, as well as creating defense solutions at a faster pace than current methods. The initiative also aligns with the UA's participation in the Golden Dome missile defense program. The location of the University of Arizona, near the border, coupled with the faculty’s knowledge, makes it a prime location for the program.

The AETOS Program is a training initiative by the University of Arizona in partnership with the Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance to improve the U.S.'s response to technology threats.

The program will include 12 to 18 participants, mainly from uniformed services, who will work with faculty to develop policies and prototypes.

The program will focus on countering threats from drones, high-speed missiles, and near-space operations.
