California Weather Update: Highway Reopenings and Flood Watch

Following severe flash floods in Kern County, key highways have been reopened, offering relief to stranded travelers and residents. According to CHP Mojave and Caltrans, Highways 14 and 58 are now open, along with Highway 395 from China Lake Boulevard to the Kern/San Bernardino County Line near Ridgecrest. However, one-way traffic is in place on Highway 395 through the Randsburg area, and some roads like Redrock Randsburg Rd. remain closed at Highway 14 and Highway 395.

Meanwhile, Yosemite National Park is under a Flood Watch due to expected heavy rainfall. The National Weather Service warns of potential flash flooding and debris flows, particularly in the French Burn Scar area of Mariposa County. Visitors are advised to stay informed and be ready to take action if Flash Flood Warnings are issued.

In a dramatic incident, vehicles were swept away by flash floods in the Red Rock Canyon area. Fortunately, all occupants, including those in patrol cars, an ambulance, and a fire truck, were able to escape to safety once the flooding subsided. This event underscores the unpredictable nature of flash floods and the importance of caution during heavy rainfall.
