North Texas Storms: Power Outages and Flood Warnings

Storms moved through North Texas on Tuesday, bringing heavy rain and strong wind gusts. As of Tuesday morning, over 22,000 Oncor customers were without power. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for most of the region and severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of Rockwall, Kaufman, Collin, and Dallas counties. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for a large portion of North Texas, including Collin, Denton, Dallas, Johnson, Tarrant, Rockwall, Johnson and Somervell counties until 4 p.m. The storms pose threats including wind damage, large hail, and flooding, with a potential tornado risk south of I-20. While midweek is expected to be drier, another chance of showers is possible on Friday. By Mother's Day weekend, a beautiful forecast is expected to return. The rain has added to already saturated soil, so flash flooding is an elevated concern. Oncor is monitoring the situation and responding to outages as quickly as possible. The greatest severe threats during the morning look to be damaging wind gusts and a large hail threat.

Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Ellis, and Cooke counties have reported significant power outages.

The main threats include wind damage, large hail, and flooding. There is also a tornado threat, especially south of I-20.

The shower activity is expected to taper off by late afternoon and early evening on Tuesday. Midweek will be dry, with isolated shower chances on Wednesday and Thursday.
