South Jersey Hit by Nor'easter, Montclair Blanketed in Snow

The nor'easter brought heavy, wet snow to South Jersey, making shoveling difficult and causing tree limbs and power lines to fall. In Burlington County, about 70 trucks were deployed to clear snow, but the weight of the snow complicated their efforts. A statewide travel ban was in effect until Monday afternoon.

Montclair faced similar challenges with a historic blizzard exceeding earlier forecasts. The township extended its no street parking order to aid snow removal, and garbage/recycling collection was canceled. Officials advised residents to avoid clearing curb cuts until plowing was complete and recommended the "snow pocket" method to assist plow crews.

Both regions experienced power outages, with crews working to restore service. Shelters were opened in some towns for residents without power and heat. Residents were urged to check on neighbors and limit travel.

Shovel smaller amounts more frequently to reduce strain. Avoid clearing the end of your driveway (curb cuts) until plowing operations are complete. Use the "snow pocket" method if possible.
